I am curious where the surname “Vrabac” comes from. I am aware it means “Sparrow” in slavic, but what part of the world does it really come from?

The first census after World War 2 (1948) in Croatia are registered surname Vrabac in next villages: village Apševci (district Vinkovci) 12 families, in Donja Motičina (Našice) 6 families, in Ždralovi (Bjelovar) 11 families, in Stupe (Jastrebarsko) 7 families and in Utolica (Kostajnica) 7 families.
The origin of surname Vrabac is local nickname, like surnames Golub (Dove), Sokol (Falcon), Tica (Bird) etc.

Does a census prior to World War 2 exist? If so, what does it mention regarding that surname? Im also curious as to how many censuses were conducted in general in Croatia.
