I will be visiting Bobovisca and Lozisca, Brac in June 2019. My ancestors lived in these villages in the 1700-1900’s. I also believe they lived in Skrip in the centuries before that. I would like to learn about their occupations and where they lived in the villages. Are there any existing resources on the island that might assist me?25. 12. 2018. u 19:05:12 #15332
I found : Pietro Cattanich and his wife Maddalena Piura lived in Bobovišća:
They had a chidren: Cattarina b. 14.12.1838, Lucia b.24.05.1828, Margarita b. 17.01.183519. 3. 2019. u 22:27:53 #15728
Yes!! Pietro Cattanich (Katanic of Bobovisca) (b. 1795; d. 1862) and Maddalena Jiura (Jurin of Lozisca) (b. 1797; d. ?) were my great great grandparents!!
I believe that Pietro’s father’s name was Nicola Katanic. Pietro’s mother’s name was Viktorija Cerenic. I believe that Maddalena’s mother’s surname was Carstulovich.
Pietro’s son, Peter Catanich, immigrated to the United States (San Francisco, California) in the 1860’s. He came back to Brac in the late 1870’s and married my great grandmother, Anna Vitaich. My grandfather was born in Supetar. They moved back to California in the 1880’s.
Do you know if cemeteries have older books than the church records? I would like to go father back in my family tree, if possible. I am also interested in learning any facts about this family. Do you have any suggestions of historians or people in Bobovisca that might be able to help me learn more?
Thank you so much!
